1 in 4 Adults in the UK experience a mental health problem every year

Mental health issues are showing up more and more across the UK. Around 1 in 4 adults are dealing with a mental health problem at some point within the year. The Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health is here to help you build real awareness of these issues, and why looking after mental wellbeing matters.

You’ll put together a useful knowledge base you can take into different kinds of work. Along the way, you’ll learn what skills are needed in mental health services, why it’s important to tackle mental health concerns early, and how legislation and public conversations are shifting the attitudes of people who are trying to access support.

How will I study?

We call our online courses “flexible” because they’re built to fit around your schedule. Once you sign up, you’ll get access to our online learning platform, and you’ll work through your assessments with help from a specialist tutor who knows the subject well.

How long is the course?

The course runs for 17 weeks.

We use the phrase “flexible learning” for a reason. The course is designed so you can complete it alongside your job and home commitments. When you enrol, your online course platform will show you all deadlines so you have a clear view of what’s coming next and can stay on track.

Is this course free?

This course is funded through the Government scheme called “Free Courses for Jobs”, so you might be able to study without paying. The funding eligibility details are listed below. If you don’t meet the requirements, you can still enrol by using the “Buy Now” button at the top of the page.

Is this course recognised?

This course is accredited by NCFE CACHE, a well-known awarding organisation with more than 170 years of experience. NCFE is recognised by the UK Department for Education and is regulated by Ofqual.

What can I do after this course?

This course could be a good fit for roles like:

- Mental Health Nurse (£30,000 to £45,000)
- Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (£27,000 to £36,000)
- Victim Care Officer (£21,000 to £30,000)

You may need extra qualifications depending on the exact role you’re aiming for. Since this is a knowledge-focused course, it works nicely as a starting point, or as CPD if you’re already working in the field.

It’s also a strong option for managers in any organisation.

There is government funding available for this course as part of the Free Courses for Jobs scheme.

To be eligible, you’ll need to meet the criteria below:

Live in England at the moment
Be aged 24 or over (if you’re 19 to 23, please still reach out, as there may be alternative funding available where you live.)
Earn less than £25,000 per year
If you’re based in West Yorkshire, you’ll have to attend required face-to-face sessions
