If you don’t currently have the grades to go straight into university, this diploma gives you the building blocks you need, including the knowledge and skills for successful degree-level study.

It’s tailored to guide you onto the right pathway for a Social Work degree. You’ll cover key topics such as safeguarding, mental health, and how poverty can affect health outcomes.

Course Entry Requirements

To join the Access to Higher Education Diplomas, you’ll need to meet certain entry requirements:

    • You must be 19 or older when your course starts
    • You’ll need a Level 2 qualification in Maths and English (for example, GCSE or an equivalent qualification, including Level 2 qualifications earned outside of England). During enrolment, we’ll request copies of your certificates.
    • Full access to a laptop
    • Access to the internet
    • Must be a resident of England

Typically, applicants are expected to have at least two Level 2 qualifications or above. That said, we may be able to review applications if you only hold an English qualification. If you need it, support for Functional Skills in English and/or Maths can be included while you study on the Access to HE course.

As part of enrolment, you’ll take part in a telephone interview and complete a written assessment. This helps us make sure the course level fits you properly.

Meeting entry requirements for university:

Many students choose an Access to Higher Education Diploma as a way of working towards university in the longer term.

Your tutors will support and guide you with your individual application, but it’s still your job to check the specific entry requirements for the university course you want to progress to.

Assessment Method

Your Access to HE Diploma is made up of units, including 45 graded credits and 15 ungraded credits. Across your modules, you’ll complete a range of assignments that come together in your electronic portfolio. Your learning will be evaluated through formal written assignments, which build up into your portfolio of work.

Along the way, you’ll join live online classes and also spend time studying on your own between sessions. You’ll have support from one of our specialist tutors throughout the programme.

Who is this course suitable for?

Access courses are aimed at people who’ve been away from education for a while. So if you left school without the qualifications you needed to go straight to university, this can be a really solid next step. You’ll gain a strong foundation of knowledge and practical skills, so you feel ready to start a degree. Whether you’re changing careers, returning to learning after time out of work, or hoping to study something you genuinely care about, an Access to HE course might be the right fit for you.

Is this an accredited course?

Yes, it is accredited by AIM Group. When you finish the course, learners receive a national qualification that’s recognised as an entry requirement by many universities across England and Wales.

How long is this course?

This course is designed to be completed part-time over 47 weeks. We structure our Access to HE programmes around a university-style timetable, with your study organised into modules delivered in grouped terms.

How will you study?

Our Access to HE Diplomas are delivered online, so you can learn from wherever you are. You’ll get access to our online platform where you can study independently, strengthen your understanding, and take part in interactive activities that help bring what you learn to life.

Just to be clear, studying online doesn’t mean you’re left on your own. You’ll receive support from our experienced tutors and an engagement support team, who are there with you throughout the course.

Because it’s an online programme, you will need access to a laptop or PC to complete your diploma.
