To join our Access to Higher Education Diplomas, there are a few entry requirements you’ll need to meet:

• • You must be aged 19 or over when your course starts
  • You need a Level 2 qualification in Maths and English (GCSE or an equivalent qualification, including Level 2 qualifications completed outside of England). As part of enrolment, we’ll ask to see copies of your certificates.
  • Full access to a laptop
  • Access to the internet
  • You must be a resident of England

Most applicants will be expected to have at least two Level 2 qualifications, or higher. That said, we might be able to review applications where you only hold an English qualification. If you need extra help, Functional Skills support for English and/or Maths can be offered during your Access to HE course, where appropriate.

During enrolment, you’ll take part in a telephone interview and complete a written assessment. This helps us make sure the course level is right for you.

Requirements for university entry:

Many students complete an Access to Higher Education Diploma as a step towards going to university longer term.

While your tutors will support and guide you with your individual application, it’s still your job to check the exact entry requirements for the university course you want to move on to.

Your Access to HE Diploma is made up of units worth 45 graded credits and 15 ungraded credits. Across the modules, you’ll complete a series of assignments that come together as an electronic portfolio. You’ll be assessed through formal written assignments, which build your collection of work.

Throughout the course, you’ll be expected to join live online sessions and also spend time studying independently. You’ll have ongoing support from one of our specialist tutors throughout your programme.

Access courses are designed for learners who may have been away from education for a while. So if you left school without the qualifications you needed to apply to university right away, this is a really solid option. It gives you a solid grounding in the skills and knowledge you’ll need, so starting a degree feels more achievable.
