Are you the kind of person who can’t resist a good story from the past? With IGCSE History, you’ll dig into how different societies worked, and how major events shaped the world we live in now. You’ll build a clear understanding of what happened over time, from early civilisations right through to modern debates.

Across the course, you’ll study a range of areas, such as ancient civilisations, medieval Europe, the Age of Exploration, the Industrial Revolution, both World Wars, and the Cold War. Learning happens through interesting lessons, structured investigations, and hands-on work with sources. As you go, you’ll start to see history as more than just dates, and understand the key reasons behind change, decisions, and consequences.

By the end of IGCSE History, you’ll be ready to think like a well-informed global citizen, with the skills to understand and appreciate what makes human history so complex.

How it works
You can begin your IGCSE History whenever you want, and the whole course is completed online. That means you’re not tied to a fixed timetable, which is great when life is busy. The structure is meant to give you both a strong understanding of History and the skills you’ll need for future study or work connected to the subject.
Each part of the course includes guided learning hours online. You’ll also get access to optional extras like suggested exercises, reading materials, digital resources, and short self-check tasks.
When it’s time to earn your IGCSE qualification, you’ll take written exams at an approved exam centre. Once you’re ready, you can learn more about exam centres and how to find one here.
To wrap up the course, you’ll have 1-2-1 tutor support and all the course materials you need. If you pass, you’ll receive your IGCSE History qualification, which can help you progress to A Levels, higher education, roles connected to science, or a Level 3 qualification through Online Business School.
Throughout the course, you’ll also have access to extra support, including webinars, social learning spaces, and further materials to help you stay on track.

Sitting the Exam
First, you’ll need to choose an exam centre in your country that allows private candidates. Once you find a suitable one, you’ll register with them and complete any required steps, including paying the fees.
Before exam day, double-check that your statement of entry is correct. Also make sure you bring valid identification to every exam. Keep in touch with your exam centre or exam provider if you have questions, especially if you’re requesting any special access arrangements.
After the exams, let the centre or exam provider know if you need special consideration. You’ll then collect your results and certificates. If you feel the outcome needs checking, you can ask about review of marking or appeals, usually through the same centre or exam provider.

Am I eligible for this programme?
Most people complete the IGCSE at around ages 14 to 16, but you don’t have to fit that exact range. If you’re over 14, you can join this course. And don’t worry, you don’t need any previous qualifications to get started.

Career Progression
Once you finish this course, you’ll have the groundwork and core knowledge you need if you want to move on to A Levels or a Level 3 qualification with Online Business School.

Subject Content
All learners will study Core content, either:
Option A
The Nineteenth Century:
the development of modern nation-states, 1848–1914
or:
Option B
The twentieth century:
international relations since 1919.
On top of the Core, everyone also needs to study at least one of the Depth studies.
The Core content and Depth studies are organised around key questions, specific focus points, and clearly identified content to cover:
Key questions set out the main themes you’ll be working through.
Focus points highlight what you need to look at so you can answer the key question properly.
The specified content shows what should be studied for each key question.
You’ll be expected to show you understand the key questions by using relevant historical examples and applying your knowledge clearly.
