About this course

Creativity isn't just for artists.

In today's business world, competition is intense, and that means both people and organisations need to stay at their best.

With more jobs and services being automated, what's going to help us do more than just keep up, but actually move ahead?

Creativity, plain and simple.

It's one of the most valuable skills you can build, either as an employee or a company. And here's why it matters:

Creativity can't be fully automated. It's also the thing that helps you stand out when everyone else is trying to copy the same playbook.

This course is for anyone who wants to sharpen their creative thinking and generate stronger ideas, whether you're doing it on your own or as part of a business.

You'll work through more than 50 case studies showing how creativity can improve results, not just 'brand vibes'. Plus, you'll get practical tools you can start using straight away.

If you build your creative skills, you'll have a real advantage both now and later.

What level of learning is this?

 • Every course on 42courses is structured for an executive business course level. (i.e. you'll leave with a clear understanding of the topic, plus the main methods, frameworks, and best practices.)
 • As you go, you're supported through ongoing checks by real tutors. If you hit a snag, we'll guide you toward the right approach.

How long does it take to complete a course?

 • Plan for around 7-9 hours per course. There's no rush, no strict time limits, and each lesson is short and easy to digest.
 • You can learn whenever suits you, since everything is available on demand.

You'll get a fresh, practical way to approach the topic, guided by insights from respected names in the field. Whether you're brand new or already experienced, there's usually something useful you can take with you.

Rory Sutherland

Rory Sutherland

Rory Sutherland is one of the most influential voices in advertising and behavioural science. He's President Emeritus of Ogilvy Consulting, where he helped set up the agency's behavioural science work, and he's the bestselling author of Alchemy: The Surprising Power of Ideas That Don't Make Sense. Rory started at Ogilvy as a graduate trainee in 1988 and spent over two decades as a copywriter and creative director before focusing on a bigger question: why do people actually do what they do? His view is that humans are wonderfully irrational, and honestly, that's not a flaw. It's part of how we work. The behavioural science practice he helped create looks for the small psychological shifts that lead to outsized changes in behaviour. His TED talks, including the fan-favourite 'Life Lessons from an Ad Man', have been seen millions of times, making him one of TED's most watched marketing thinkers. He also writes The Wiki Man for The Spectator, is a former President of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA), and founded Nudgestock, the biggest festival for behavioural science and creativity, often jokingly called 'Glastonbury for nerds'. Alongside Alchemy, he's written The Wiki Man and Transport for Humans with Pete Dyson. A common thread through his work: logic is overrated, the opposite of a good idea can still be useful, and the biggest improvements in work and life often come from thinking differently. Rory lives in Kent, England, and is still one of advertising's most quotable champions of the unexpected.
